The Federal Government has taken a major step toward modernising airport operations with the official signing of the VPass E-Gate System agreement, effectively ending manual passenger checks at local airports.
Newsonspot reports that the agreement, signed at the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development in Abuja, brings together key stakeholders to implement the biometric system across all airports managed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
With the introduction of this advanced technology, travellers will no longer need to present physical documents during routine inspections. Instead, facial recognition will be used to instantly verify passengers as they approach airport entry points, enabling seamless and contactless access.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, described the initiative as a transformative milestone in enhancing both security and passenger experience.
The VPass E-Gate System is expected to significantly reduce congestion, improve security infrastructure, increase revenue generation, and deliver a faster, more efficient travel experience for Nigerians.
