Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has immortalized his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, with the commissioning of a new female hostel named in her honour at Clifford University, Abia State.
Newsonspot reports that the emotional inauguration took place on Sunday during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where Davido also delivered an inspiring commencement speech to the graduating class.
Sharing photos from the event on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Davido expressed how the moment reminded him of his mother’s passion for education and compassion.
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and giver who believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose – turning love into legacy,” he wrote.
During his speech, Davido urged graduates to lead with purpose and use their talents to make a lasting impact, saying:
“Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning. True greatness is not in fame or numbers but in the lives you touch.”
In attendance was Davido’s close friend and popular nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, who pledged to sponsor the tuition fees of 50 students as part of his support for the event.
The Vice Chancellor of Clifford University, Prof. Chimezie Omeonu, praised Davido for his commitment to education and for using his influence to inspire young Africans.
The ceremony concluded with the ribbon-cutting of the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, attended by university management, special guests, and jubilant students who celebrated the artist’s touching tribute to his late mother’s legacy.
