The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed as false the viral report claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been scrapped.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, the Federal Ministry of Education described the circulating report as “false, misleading, and malicious.”
According to the Ministry, the fake report alleged that a new education policy had been introduced under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, to increase access to higher education by replacing JAMB.

However, the Ministry firmly clarified that no such policy exists.
“The report did not originate from the Ministry and should be disregarded in its entirety,” the statement read. “JAMB remains central to Nigeria’s tertiary admission process, and no change has been made to its statutory role.”
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), reaffirmed that JAMB is the only legally authorized body responsible for coordinating entrance examinations and admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
He further cautioned the public – especially students, parents, and school administrators – to rely solely on official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB for credible and verified information.
Dr. Alausa reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining a transparent, fair, and credible admission process, emphasizing continued collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.
The Ministry also advised media organizations and online platforms to verify all information from credible government sources before publication to prevent the spread of fake news capable of undermining public trust.
“Any publication or online post suggesting that JAMB has been banned is entirely false and should be treated as such,” the statement concluded.
