Brilliant Nigerian Student With 9 A1s in WAEC Faces Uncertain Future Over Financial Hardship…

Nigerian Student

A young Nigerian student, Adeshina Shalom Ololade, has captured nationwide attention after emerging as one of the country’s brightest secondary school graduates but his dream of pursuing higher education is now at risk due to financial hardship.

Newsonspot reports that despite achieving 9 distinctions (A1s) in his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) and 7As with 2Bs in his National Examination Council (NECO) results, Shalom’s family cannot afford the cost of university admission and tuition.

A Brilliant Mind Held Back by Poverty

Shalom’s story came to light after a user identified as @Iamowolewa shared his plight on X (formerly Twitter), with the consent of the student’s parents. According to the post, Shalom recently completed his secondary education and is now seeking support to begin his university journey.

“Shalom has completed all necessary examinations and performed excellently, but his parents cannot afford the next stage of his education,” the tweet read. “They are appealing for sponsorship to ensure his talent does not go to waste.”

The post has since gone viral, drawing the attention of Nigerians across social media, many of whom have expressed admiration for Shalom’s brilliance and offered to assist in various ways from financial aid to scholarship recommendations.

Family Struggles and Community Support

Further details shared online reveal that Shalom’s education has long been a product of collective goodwill. His secondary education, according to reports, was partly funded by a friend’s parents who stepped in when his family could no longer bear the cost.

At one point, his father allegedly considered withdrawing him from school due to financial pressure, but compassionate individuals intervened to prevent that.

A letter from Shalom’s secondary school, attached to the viral post, confirmed his exceptional performance and acknowledged that the school had waived the remaining debt owed by his parents because of his dedication and outstanding results.

Public Reactions and Search for Sponsorship

The viral tweet has sparked a wave of empathy, with several users tagging scholarship foundations, state governments, and corporate bodies in hopes that someone would take up Shalom’s case.

Many commenters described him as a “national asset” whose talent should not be wasted, urging education-focused NGOs and government agencies to intervene.

“Students like Shalom are proof that Nigeria’s educational system still produces brilliance, even in hardship,” one user wrote. “It would be a tragedy to let poverty stop him from achieving his dreams.”

A Call for Support

As of now, Shalom’s family continues to appeal for scholarship or sponsorship opportunities to help him pursue higher education in any Nigerian university. Supporters online have urged individuals and organizations to reach out to assist the young scholar in realizing his potential.

Education advocates have also called on both federal and state governments to develop transparent scholarship systems that can identify and support gifted students from low-income backgrounds.

Shalom’s story, while heartbreaking, has become a powerful reminder of the untapped potential within Nigeria’s youth and how financial hardship continues to stand in the way of many promising futures.
