President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, following allegations concerning his academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials.
Newsonspot reports that Nnaji, who joined the Federal Executive Council in August 2023, reportedly tendered his resignation letter to President Tinubu on Monday. In the letter, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation and pledged his continued support for Nigeria’s progress.
“I sincerely appreciate Your Excellency for the privilege to serve our great nation. I remain committed to Nigeria’s progress despite the distractions I have faced,” Nnaji wrote.
His resignation followed mounting public scrutiny over claims that he forged his Bachelor’s degree and NYSC certificates – allegations he described as political blackmail orchestrated by his opponents.

Confirming the development, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, announced that the President had formally accepted the minister’s resignation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, following allegations against him. The President thanks him for his service to the nation and wishes him well in his future endeavours,” Onanuga stated.
A technocrat and politician from Enugu State, Nnaji previously served in various public and private-sector roles focused on technology development and innovation policy. His departure marks the first resignation within the Tinubu administration linked to a credentials-related controversy.
