Ibom Air has permanently banned a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, after a violent incident on its Uyo – Lagos flight on Sunday, August 10, 2025, endangered crew members, passengers, and the aircraft itself.
Newsonspot reports that according to the airline, trouble began before take-off when Emmanson repeatedly ignored instructions to switch off her mobile phone, a standard aviation safety requirement. The Pilot-in-Command had to make a public announcement, and a fellow passenger eventually turned off the device on her behalf – an action that reportedly sparked a verbal outburst.
While the situation appeared to calm and the flight departed on schedule, events took a dangerous turn upon arrival in Lagos. After other passengers disembarked, Emmanson allegedly attacked the Purser who had instructed her earlier. She reportedly stepped on the crew member, tore off her wig, removed her glasses, threw them to the floor, struck her with footwear, and slapped her multiple times. Another crew member who intervened was also assaulted.

The incident escalated further when Emmanson attempted to forcibly remove a fire extinguisher from the aircraft – a move that could have caused serious damage. Airport security was called, but before their arrival, the Purser blocked her from leaving the plane. Even after Ibom Air security arrived, she allegedly continued her assault, hitting both the ground supervisor and security staff.
She was eventually restrained, removed from the aircraft, and handed over to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) before being transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.

Ibom Air stated it has reported the matter to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for any behaviour that threatens safety. The airline praised the bravery and professionalism of its crew, as well as the swift response from airport security and police, urging all passengers to comply with crew instructions at all times.
“Ibom Air reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of unruly or violent conduct that threatens the safety of passengers, crew, or equipment. Such behaviour will be met with the strongest possible response, including legal action and permanent restriction from our services.
“We commend the bravery and professionalism of our crew in handling this situation under extremely challenging circumstances, as well as the swift support from airport security and the Nigerian Police.
“Safety remains our highest priority. We urge all passengers to comply with crew instructions at all times for the safety, security, and comfort of everyone on board,” the statement read.
