The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, over his alleged role in cross-border drug trafficking.
Newsonspot reports that the clergyman, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, was apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church on Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, Lagos. NDLEA operatives reportedly laid surveillance throughout the day, allowing him to complete the Sunday worship service before arresting him as he stepped out of the premises.
According to the NDLEA, the arrest followed months of manhunt after Prophet Adefolusho evaded capture twice and fled to Ghana in June. He was wanted in connection with the trafficking of two major shipments of Ghana Loud – a potent strain of cannabis – into Nigeria.
The first seizure, weighing 200kg, was intercepted at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, 2025. A second consignment of 700kg was recovered from his delivery van on July 6, 2025.
In his statement to the NDLEA, the suspect admitted transporting the illicit consignments through the waterways from Ghana to Nigeria, and confirmed he fled to Ghana to hide after narrowly escaping arrest on two earlier occasions.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to tracking and prosecuting individuals involved in drug trafficking, regardless of status or location.
