President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has showered accolades and generous rewards on the triumphant Super Falcons following their historic win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Newsonspot reports that during a grand reception held at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Tinubu conferred national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each of the 24 players and the 11-man technical crew.
In addition to the prestigious awards, each team member received a three-bedroom apartment and a cash gift equivalent to $100,000 for players and $50,000 for the coaching staff.
The President, expressing his pride, said:
“On behalf of the grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the technical team the national honour of OON. I congratulate you all and will continue to pray for your success.”
In a lighthearted moment, Tinubu revealed that he avoided watching the final match live due to the emotional tension, joking that he did not want to develop high blood pressure.

During the ceremony, Super Falcons’ captain Rasheedat Ajibade and vice-captain/Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie presented the WAFCON trophy to President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu at the State Banquet Hall.
The Super Falcons claimed their 10th WAFCON title after an epic 3-2 comeback victory over the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on Saturday.
