The National Labour Congress (NLC) has shut down the National Assembly (NASS) restricting movement in the complex in an effort to enforce its strike action which kicked off on Tuesday.
According to Arise News, the directive, which was enforced by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASSAN), was in compliance with the union’s stance to protest the alleged brutality of Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, in Imo State on November 1.
PASSAN had initially granted partial access to the complex, which caused a gridlock around the area.
This compelled those working within and around the National Assembly to trek long distances to get to their destinations.

However, the union imposed a complete shutdown on the National Assembly, restricting any form of movement and commuting.
No one, including lawmakers and their cars, was allowed to leave or access the premises.

Several agencies and commissions, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have halted their operations in compliance with NLC’s industrial action.
