Two Nigerian policemen seen beating a lady in a video clip that has gone viral in the social media have been arrested.
The order to arrest the officers, it was gathered, came from the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu.
In the video clip, the officers, Taiwo Ikuesan with Force number AP NO 251724 and PC Abass Ibrahim with Force number 509634, attached to Iwo Division, Osun Command, were seen flogging the lady in turns at Odo-Ori Market, Iwo in Osun State, a development the police higher authorities say was ‘unjustifiable’.
Following the IGP’s directives, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, promptly ordered the officers arrested and detained. The Force’s spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, confirmed the matter, stating that the erring duo are currently being detained and their orderly room trial had since commenced.
”The IGP reiterates that the Police under his watch will not condone any act of misconduct and recklessness on the part of its personnel. He enjoins the citizens to continue to cooperate with the leadership of the Force as it strives to reposition the NPF into an effective, efficient and people-friendly Force,” MBA adds in the statement.
