The US’ top health and infectious disease specialist, Dr Anthony Fauci has suggested that Sports can only come back if Athletes play in front of empty stadiums, avoid contact with family and are kept in high surveillance hotels.
Fauci, who is the White House Coronavirus response team chief said reliable antibody testing and fast results will also be crucial if sports is to return.
Sports in the US and all over the world has been halted to slow the spread of Coronavirus with major leagues unfinished causing financial damage to clubs and sporting companies.
But Fauci has now given the only conditions that must be met before Basketball, soccer, American football, tennis, car racing, golf and other sports can come back.
“There’s a way of doing that,” Fauci told US Snapchat show “Good Luck America.”
“Nobody comes to the stadiums. Put (athletes) in big hotels, wherever you want to play.
“Keep them very well-surveilled, but have them tested like every week and make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their families, and just let them play the season out.”
New York mayor Bill de Blasio said on Wednesday he doesn’t want to see large-scale sporting events and concerts with fans till next year
“Those big events should be one of the last things we should bring back online. The last thing we should do is gather 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 people in one place,” de Blasio told CNN.
“That is the opposite of social distancing, so I think it could take quite a while.”
