President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka as part of ongoing adjustments within his administration.
Newsonspot reports that the nomination was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President formally requested Senate confirmation of Oyedele’s appointment.
As part of the cabinet reshuffle, Dr. Anite-Uzoka has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.
Before his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system. His appointment is widely seen as a strategic move to consolidate ongoing fiscal reforms and strengthen economic management.
A native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and accountant brings over two decades of professional experience in public policy and financial advisory. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Oyedele has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He spent 22 years at PwC, joining the firm in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. Currently, he serves as a professor at Babcock University and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
If confirmed by the Senate, Oyedele will assume office as Minister of State for Finance, reinforcing the administration’s push for fiscal discipline, tax reform, and sustainable economic growth.
