The Federal Government has declared Tuesday a public holiday in honour of Nigeria’s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Newsonspot reports that this announcement was made on Monday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government as part of the ongoing seven-day national mourning declared by President Bola Tinubu.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo said the public holiday serves as a national tribute to President Buhari’s legacy, describing him as a leader who served with dedication, integrity, and a deep commitment to Nigeria’s unity and democratic progress.
“This day is to allow Nigerians reflect on the life and leadership of the late President Muhammadu Buhari – his values, vision, and his contribution to governance and national development,” he stated.
The Minister urged citizens to honour Buhari’s memory by promoting peace, unity, and patriotism, ideals the former President stood for throughout his time in public service.

The Federal Government also extended condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
