The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has approved a salary increase for Customary Court judges in the state, aligning their remuneration with the recently implemented ₦80,000 minimum wage.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement released on Tuesday by his Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Osinachi Nnajieze, highlighted the need for the adjustment, citing concerns over the wages of Customary Court staff.
The review affects the 459 judges across the 153 Customary Courts in Enugu State, including the chairpersons and members of the courts.
According to the statement:
Chairpersons will now earn between ₦42,989.76 and ₦92,989.76.
Court members will earn between ₦39,736.18 and ₦89,736.18.
The salary increment follows the rising cost of living and the recent adjustment of the national minimum wage to ₦70,000, which Governor Mbah surpassed by raising the minimum wage in Enugu State to ₦80,000.
Governor Mbah reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of state workers and residents, emphasizing that this salary review reflects his dedication to creating a more equitable and supportive working environment.
This development is part of broader efforts by the Enugu State Government to enhance public service delivery and address the economic challenges faced by workers in the state.
