Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Eid al-Adha 2026 will be observed on Wednesday, May 27, following the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon on Sunday evening.
Newsonspot reports that according to the Saudi Supreme Court, the new Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah will begin on Monday, May 18, 2026. The announcement was made through the Saudi Press Agency.
The court also confirmed that the Day of Arafat, one of the most significant days during the Hajj pilgrimage, will take place on Tuesday, May 26, corresponding to the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah.
On this sacred day, millions of Muslim pilgrims from around the world will gather at Mount Arafat near Mecca for prayers, reflection, and supplication as part of the annual Hajj exercise.
Eid al-Adha celebrations will then commence on Wednesday, May 27. The festival, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah before a ram was provided as a substitute, according to Islamic teachings.
Hajj remains one of the five pillars of Islam and is obligatory for Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.
