The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers in connection with the killing of legal practitioner, Barrister Chigbo Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix, who died after allegedly falling victim to a notorious “one-chance” gang in Abuja.
Newsonspot reports that the suspects – Saifullahi Yusuf (22), Ishau Yusuf (24), who are biological brothers, and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia – were arrested in separate operations across Dei-Dei, Dakwa and Dan-Tata communities in the Kubwa area. They are all said to be from Kaduna State.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, to ensure that all those connected to the crime and similar offences are brought to justice. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belong to a violent “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate that has operated within the FCT for several years, especially during festive periods.
Police investigations showed that the incident occurred on January 5, 2026, when the victim boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway. Shortly after entering the vehicle, the suspects reportedly wound up the tinted windows, threatened her with weapons and attempted to force her to pay ransom. When she allegedly refused to cooperate, she was assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, leading to her death.
The suspects were also said to have stolen the victim’s Android phone, which was later sold in Dei-Dei for ₦120,000, with the proceeds shared among the gang members. Items recovered from the suspects included scissors, dagger knives, other sharp objects, a chain allegedly used to restrain victims, and a plier.
The police said investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to arrest a remaining suspect and dismantle other criminal networks linked to the syndicate. The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives involved and reassured residents of the command’s resolve to curb “one-chance” crimes in the FCT.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered or suspicious vehicles, and promptly report suspicious activities to the police through designated emergency numbers.
