Besiktas midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been confirmed as the captain of the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Newsonspot reports that Ndidi, who recently led Nigeria during the CAF 2026 World Cup Playoffs in Morocco, takes over the captain’s armband following the retirement of William Troost-Ekong from international football.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder, one of Nigeria’s most experienced players with 71 caps since making his debut in August 2015, missed the delayed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire due to injury. Despite that setback, he remains a key figure in the squad.
Having previously represented Nigeria at the U17 and U20 levels, Ndidi has grown into a dependable leader and a central force in the senior national team.
His leadership and experience will play a vital role as the Super Eagles prepare for a strong and determined campaign at AFCON 2025.
