Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), just hours before the party’s scheduled governorship primary in Osogbo.
Newsonspot reports that Adeleke announced his resignation on Monday night in a letter dated November 4 and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State.
The governor had earlier been screened by the party in October ahead of the Ibadan National Convention. However, rising tensions and internal crisis within the PDP’s national leadership led to a dramatic turn of events.
In his resignation letter, Adeleke stated:
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Representing Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State.”
His withdrawal comes at a critical moment for the party, which had scheduled its governorship primary for Tuesday, December 2.
