A futuristic “human washing machine” that amazed visitors at the recent World Expo in Osaka is now officially available for purchase in Japan.
Newsonspot reports that the high-tech bathing pod allows users to lie down, relax, and enjoy a full-body wash without any spinning motion, all while soothing music plays in the background.
The prototype became one of the top attractions at the six-month Expo, which ended in October after drawing more than 27 million visitors. Designed by Japanese company Science, the machine is a modern upgrade of a similar device showcased at Osaka’s 1970 Expo.
The Mirai Ningen Sentakuki, or the “Human Washing Machine,” is an AI-powered invention by Osaka-based Science Co. Promising to cleanse the body and calm the mind in just 15 minutes, this futuristic machine is designed for efficiency and relaxation, making it a potential game-changer for those short on time.
According to company spokeswoman Sachiko Maekura, Science’s president was inspired by that original model as a 10-year-old boy. The new version goes beyond physical cleansing – it is built to “wash not only the body but also the soul,” featuring sensors that track heart rate and other vital signs for comfort and safety.
Interest in the innovation surged after a U.S. resort company asked about commercial availability. This pushed Science to begin production, and the first unit has already been purchased by a hotel in Osaka, which plans to offer the unique bathing experience to its guests.
Major electronics retailer Yamada Denki has also placed an early order, hoping the machine’s futuristic appeal will attract customers to its stores. Science intends to manufacture only 50 units to maintain exclusivity, with each one priced at around 60 million yen ($385,000) – making it a luxury reserved for the few who can afford it.
