The Lagos State Police Command is mourning the loss of one of its most respected officers, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, who passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025.
Newsonspot reports that CSP Ngbaronye, who until her death served as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, reportedly died at Mayriamville Medical Centre in the Surulere area of Lagos following surgery.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, her passing was described as a profound loss to both the Lagos State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Force.
“CSP Ngbaronye was known for her diligence, integrity, and humane approach to policing. Her leadership and friendly disposition helped strengthen the relationship between the Police and the community she served,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohondare Jimoh, expressed deep sorrow over her passing, describing her as “a rare and upright officer whose service to the Command will never be forgotten.” He extended heartfelt condolences to her family – especially her husband, elderly mother, and elder brother, who is a clergyman – on behalf of all officers and men of the Command.
Before her appointment as DPO of Festac Division, CSP Ngbaronye served as the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Lagos State Police Command, where she earned admiration for her professionalism, discipline, and commitment to duty.
Her death has left colleagues, subordinates, and members of the Festac community in deep sorrow, as tributes continue to pour in from officers and residents alike.
Details of her burial arrangements, according to the Command, will be announced in due course.
“Her death is a great loss not only to the Lagos State Police Command but to the entire Nigeria Police Force. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
