Nigeria has lost one of its notable former military administrators, Retired Commander Walter Feghabo, who passed away on Sunday, October 19, at the age of 69.
Newsonspot reports that he was born on August 15, 1956, in Warri, Delta State.
He was raised in Warri and attended primary and secondary schools in the city.
Feghabo made history as the first military administrator of Ebonyi State following its creation in October 1996 during the regime of General Sani Abacha. His tenure, which lasted until August 1998, was marked by the establishment of key political and socioeconomic structures that laid the foundation for the state’s development.
In August 1998, he was appointed the military administrator of Delta State under General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s transitional government, where he served until handing over power to the democratically elected governor, James Ibori, on May 29, 1999.
After Nigeria’s return to democratic rule, Feghabo retired alongside other former military administrators from the Abacha and Abubakar eras.

Reacting to the news, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru described Feghabo’s passing as a great loss to the nation. He commended the late leader for his discipline, patriotism, and dedication to public service, noting that his contributions during Ebonyi’s formative years remain deeply appreciated.
Condolences have continued to pour in for his family, as well as the governments and people of Delta and Ebonyi States, and the Nigerian Navy, where he had a distinguished career.
