The Christian community in Nigeria and beyond has been thrown into mourning following the passing of the revered preacher and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai.
Newsonspot reports that the news of his demise first surfaced through a post by Prophet Joel Ogebe on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he wrote:
“A giant has gone to be with the Lord. My father, my father, the chariot of Israel. Heaven rejoices. Uyo.”
Shortly after, the family of the late cleric confirmed the sad news in an emotional statement shared on his official Instagram page on Monday, October 6, 2025.
“With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on the 6th of October 2025, at the age of 80. A faithful soldier of the Cross has been called to rest,” the family’s statement read.
Describing his passing as a “glorious transition”, the family highlighted his lifelong devotion to preaching the gospel and mentoring believers.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity. His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come.”
Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost faith leaders, known for his evangelistic crusades, prophetic ministry, and decades of spiritual influence. Over the course of six decades, he reached millions through his teachings, outreach programmes, and missionary work across Nigeria and beyond.
He was also considered part of Nigeria’s league of powerful men of God, including Pastor Enoch Adeboye (RCCG), Pastor W.F. Kumuyi (Deeper Life Bible Church), Bishop Mike Okonkwo (TREM), and Bishop David Oyedepo (Living Faith Church, Winners’ Chapel).
His legacy of faith, leadership, and service will continue to echo through generations.
