Governor Charles Soludo on Friday inaugurated a N600 million free Psychiatric Hospital and Home for the Elderly, built by Seraphic Homes Foundation in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
Newsonspot reports that the project, spearheaded by Evangelist Chukwuebuka Anozie Obi, Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, is Nigeria’s first-ever free psychiatric hospital. It will provide diagnosis, treatment, medication, rehabilitation, accommodation, and welfare support for patients battling mental illness – all at no cost.
Evangelist Obi, popularly known as Evangelist Ebuka, described the facility as a fulfillment of his childhood vision to touch lives nationwide.
“We are going to have four vehicles moving across Anambra to pick up mentally challenged persons and bring them here for help,” he said, stressing that no one should be left abandoned on the streets.
This comes just months after Evangelist Ebuka commissioned a massive orphanage and old people’s home in Mgbirichi, Imo State, which provides free care, accommodation, and education up to university level. He revealed that similar projects will soon extend to Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers, and other states.
Commending the initiative, Governor Soludo pledged full government support, including road construction, electricity supply, and financial assistance for the hospital’s operations.
“Evangelist Ebuka Obi has demonstrated the true essence of Christianity by this very act,” Soludo said.
The Seraphic Homes Foundation noted that the opening marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s healthcare system, combining love, faith, and compassion with medical science to restore dignity and hope to the mentally challenged.
