The Enugu State Police Command has arrested thirty-eight (38) suspects in connection with the murder of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya, who was killed on September 19, 2025, along Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona community, Nsukka Local Government Area.
Newsonspot reports that Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed in a statement that the arrests followed intensive bush combing operations and raids on criminal hideouts under the Udenu Area Command. He noted that incriminating items were recovered during the operation, and the suspects are currently being screened to determine their involvement.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, who ordered the operation, vowed that the Command would not relent until the perpetrators were apprehended.
“We will leave no stone unturned in bringing those behind this heinous crime to justice,” he said.
CP Giwa also commiserated with the family of the late priest and the Catholic Church, assuring them of the police’s resolve to secure justice. He further urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid investigations.
The Command reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected community and across the state.
