Comfort Emmanson, the passenger who assaulted crew members and officials during an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri correctional facility.
Newsonspot reports that Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed the development in a post on X on Monday. He noted that the case underscores the government’s resolve to tackle unruly passenger behaviour, as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has warned that enforcement actions will become more frequent.

Videos circulating online show Emmanson verbally and physically attacking flight attendants and confronting airport security officers. According to Ibom Air, the incident began before take-off in Uyo when she refused repeated instructions to switch off her mobile phone, a standard aviation safety rule.

The airline said a fellow passenger seated beside her eventually switched off the device, triggering an angry outburst from Emmanson. Upon arrival in Lagos, she reportedly confronted and assaulted the purser who had given the initial instruction.

Ibom Air described her actions as a serious threat to the safety of the crew, passengers, and aircraft. The airline has since imposed a lifetime travel ban on her across all its flights.
