The only known survivor of the devastating Air India crash that occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport has spoken out, sharing a chilling account of how he escaped the wreckage.
Newsonspot reports that Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national seated in 11A, was aboard the London-bound Boeing 787-8 when it went down on Wednesday evening. The flight, en route to Gatwick Airport, carried 242 passengers, including 53 British nationals, 169 Indian nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals.
Initially, reports stated that all lives were lost in the crash, which saw the aircraft plummet into nearby buildings just minutes after takeoff. However, hope emerged when it was revealed that Ramesh had miraculously survived.
Speaking from his hospital bed in Ahmedabad’s civil hospital, Ramesh recalled the terrifying moment just before the crash.
“I heard a loud noise about 30 seconds after takeoff. It all happened so quickly,” he said.
“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance.”
Ramesh sustained injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet but is recovering.

His brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, told the BBC that while they are grateful for Vishwashkumar’s survival, their hearts are heavy with concern for another sibling, Ajay, who was also on board.
“We were all in shock. Speechless. He (Ramesh) himself has no idea how he got out. When he called us, he just kept saying, ‘Find Ajay, find Ajay.’ That’s all he cares about.”
Authorities are continuing investigations, and the full cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed.
