Linda De Sousa Abreu, a former prison officer at HMP Wandsworth in the United Kingdom, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after a video of her being intimate with an inmate surfaced.
Newsonspot gathered that the 30-year-old officer was reportedly caught on camera by senior staff engaging in inappropriate behavior with the inmate. Further investigation revealed evidence of the misconduct captured on Abreu’s prison-issued body-worn camera.
Abreu was arrested at Heathrow Airport while attempting to board a flight to Madrid with her father. She subsequently pleaded guilty to charges of misconduct in public office and engaging in a sexual act with an inmate.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service commented on the incident, stating:
“While the overwhelming majority of Prison Service staff are hardworking and honest, we’re catching more of the small minority who break the rules by bolstering our Counter Corruption Unit and strengthening our vetting processes,” as reported by the BBC.
