Organised Labour has begun its protest against what it calls “anti-people” policies of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The protest commenced in Lagos, Kano, Ogun, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and other parts of the country on Tuesday.
In Lagos, officials of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) gathered at the Ikeja Computer Village area in the state’s capital with placards.
Joining the unions in their action were: the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), the National Union of Electricity Employees of Nigeria (NUEE), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The Organised Labour had earlier decried the hardship Nigerian workers had to face since Tinubu removed fuel subsidy and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) decided to float the naira.
Both moves have led to an increase in the retail price of fuel, a hike in transportation cost and a general increase in cost of living. The government has, however, made attempts to offer palliatives.
