United States Presidential candidate, Joe Biden, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian military to stop killing #EndSARS protesters in Nigeria.
Newsonspot.com.ng reports that Biden, a former Vice President of the United States made this call in a statement on Wednesday in reaction to the killings of peaceful protesters in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city.
This online news platform had reported earlier that soldiers of the Nigerian Army invaded a peaceful protest at Lekki toll gate on Tuesday evening, killing four #EndSARS protesters in the process.
Reacting to the attack on the peaceful protesters in Lagos in a tweet,Biden called on President Buhari and the Nigerian military to cease the violent crackdown on protesters in Nigeria, which has already resulted in several deaths.
Biden said in the statement: “I urge President Buhari and the Nigerian military to cease the violent crackdown on protesters in Nigeria,
which has already resulted in several deaths. My heart goes out to all those who have lost a loved one in the
violence.
“The United States must stand with Nigerians who are peacefully demonstrating for police reform and seeking an end to corruption in their democracy.”
“I encourage the government to engage in a good-faith dialogue with civil society to address these long-standing grievances and work together for a more just and inclusive Nigeria.” the statement read.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s statement is coming a few hours after Hillary Clinton, a former United States Secretary of state, warned President Buhari to stop killing young #EndSARS Protesters.
