Edo State residents in desperation to vote the candidate of their choice for the 2020 governorship election, has shunned the COVID-19 protocols as advised by the government and the electoral body in its recent publication.
A visit by reporters on Saturday morning (today), revealed that electorates are seen around polling units without keeping wearing their face masks and as well shunning the social distance order.
Newsonspot.com.ng understands that a few moments from now, Edo people would have to decide the governor of their choice through votes.
14 candidates are contesting for the position, however, the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are known as the major contenders in the 2020 race.
Also reporting, a visit to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Aduwawa in Ikpoba Okha local government area, show how electoral officials who are busy verifying the list of selected ad-hoc staff pay little or no attention to COVID-19 protocols.
Newsonspot.com.ng understands that in spite of boldly inscribed notices on the wall at polling units in Esan central-local government, the COVID-19 protocol was still giving no regard.
It was reported that the majority of electorates and officials waiting for the commencement of the polls neither wore face masks nor observe social distancing.
Further reports revealed that there was zero attention and compliance to COVID-19 protocols at Okada in Ovia north-east local government.
However Newsonspot.com.ng earlier today reported that members of the All Progressive Congress party (APC) at Emokpae Model Primary School, Oredo LGA In Edo State have asked an electoral officer to step down from conducting polls.
According to the report gathered, the electoral officer is a registered member of the major opposition party, the people’s democratic party (PDP).
