The Federal Workers Forum has called on the Federal Government to review the salaries of federal civil servants and increase the national minimum wage from the current ₦70,000 to ₦300,000 monthly.
Newsonspot reports that the demand was contained in a letter dated September 2, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The letter, signed by the forum’s National Coordinator, Andrew Emelieze, and General Secretary, Ogundele Ayodele, was also sent to the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives through the Clerk of the National Assembly.
The group argued that the existing salary structure no longer reflects the rising cost of living being experienced by federal workers across the country.
It also claimed that the ₦70,000 minimum wage introduced in 2024 had not been fully implemented for federal civil servants, alleging that consequential adjustments and some related allowances remained unpaid.
According to the forum, although the 2024 wage review increased the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000, workers across various levels allegedly received only an additional ₦40,000 rather than a comprehensive adjustment based on the new salary structure.
Beyond the minimum wage increase, the workers proposed a new salary structure that would raise the highest federal civil service salary to ₦1.5 million monthly for Level 17 Step 1 officers.
Under the proposal, Level 1 Step 1 workers would earn ₦300,000 monthly, while Level 2 and Level 3 officers would receive ₦330,000 and ₦360,000 respectively.
Level 4 is proposed at ₦390,000, Level 5 at ₦420,000, Level 6 at ₦450,000 and Level 7 at ₦480,000.
The proposed salary for Level 8 is ₦510,000, while Level 9 would receive ₦550,000 and Level 10 ₦600,000. Level 12 is pegged at ₦700,000.
The structure further proposes ₦750,000 for Level 13, ₦800,000 for Level 14, ₦1 million for Level 15 and ₦1.2 million for Level 16.
At the top of the proposed structure, Level 17 Step 1 officers would earn ₦1.5 million monthly.
