The Lagos Royal Family of the late Chief (Prince) Abdul Lasisi Ajayi Ojora officially announced yesterday the passing of Otunba Adekunle Ojora, the Olori-ebi of the Ojora Royal Family and a highly revered traditional titleholder widely known as the Otunba of Lagos and Lisa of Ife.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement released by the family, Toyin Ojora-Saraki, his daughter and the wife of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, confirmed that the respected royal patriarch died in the early hours of yesterday.
She added that he would be laid to rest in Lagos in line with Islamic rites.
“With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah (SWT), the Ojora family of Lagos announced yesterday the passing of our beloved patriarch, Otunba Adekunle Ojora,” the statement read.
“We thank Allah for a life well lived and are comforted by His words: ‘Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return’ (Qur’an 2:156).”
The family said the late traditional ruler was survived by his wife, Erelu Ojolape Ojora, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
They also called on members of the public to remember him in prayers, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.
Born on June 13, 1932, Otunba Ojora lived a life defined by heritage, leadership, and service. Over the years, he held several respected titles, including Chief Olori Omoba of Lagos, Head of the Oba Ologunkutere & Oba Adele Ajosun Royal Family, Head of the Ojora Royal Family, and Head of the Aiyeomosan Chieftaincy Family of Lagos.
He was widely respected for his commitment to Yoruba culture and tradition, as well as his dedication to community leadership, earning admiration within and outside Nigeria.
They also shared his Oríkì, honouring his ancestry and legacy:
“Omo Ojora Apasa, Omo kekeniju, Omo oyinbo Dudu ni ita iganmu, Omo afomo loko toun ti ele die, Omo olumokun okosho yun, Omo opayun Pade, Omo alowo loko bi oyinbo, Omo ogbe obinrin ta fi owo ra akobi… Omo olowu oduru. Sun re ooooooooo.”
