Nigerian skit maker and content creator Esther Thomas, popularly known as Sunshine, has passed away following complications from a fibroid surgery.
Newsonspot reports that her death was confirmed by family members in a statement shared on her Instagram page on Saturday.
According to the family, Sunshine died on Friday, January 9, 2026, after undergoing an unsuccessful surgical procedure to remove a fibroid. They described her passing as sudden and painful, noting that arrangements are being made for her burial.
Further details were shared by fellow content creator, Chidera Madu, who revealed that Sunshine began experiencing severe stomach pains on December 28, 2025. The pain reportedly worsened and was later diagnosed as a fibroid. She was initially admitted to Orchid General Hospital, where she was placed on medication.
However, it was later discovered that she was only receiving pain relief due to an ongoing doctors’ strike at the hospital. This prompted her transfer to another medical facility on January 2, where treatment continued based on previous scan results. As her condition deteriorated, doctors advised surgery.

Although the surgery was said to be successful, Sunshine later developed complications and sadly passed away. Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues in the entertainment and social media space.
Aside from being a skit maker, Sunshine was also a model, brand influencer, and video vixen, known for her vibrant personality and creative content.
