The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, announced the declaration on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The government extended warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and the diaspora, encouraging them to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.
The statement urged Nigerians of all faiths to take the opportunity to pray for peace, security, and stability in the nation while supporting government efforts to foster national unity and development.
“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the minister noted.
Citizens were also advised to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the festivities.

Eid-ul-Mawlid, observed in the Islamic month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, is celebrated with prayers, processions, lectures, and acts of charity. In Nigeria, it is recognized as a national public holiday, reflecting the country’s deep-rooted tradition of honoring major Islamic festivals.
The day is often used by religious leaders and government officials to call for peace and unity, particularly as the country continues to face security and economic challenges.
