India’s aviation authorities have launched a formal investigation into the tragic crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London.
Newsonspot reports that the devastating accident occurred near Ahmedabad on Thursday, claiming at least 260 lives – including 19 people on the ground.
In a shocking turn, one passenger is believed to have miraculously survived.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu confirmed that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the inquiry. The investigation will follow international protocols established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Rescue efforts continued into the early hours of Friday, as emergency crews scoured the crash site for survivors, clues, and the aircraft’s crucial black box recorders. These devices are vital for understanding what led to the disaster.
According to Air India, the ill-fated flight carried 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese passengers, and one Canadian. The crew included two pilots and ten cabin crew members.
International support is being coordinated: the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch has offered help, and experts from the US National Transportation Safety Board will join the probe. Boeing, the plane’s manufacturer, stated it is working closely with Air India and assisting authorities in gathering information.
In response to the tragedy, the Indian government has also formed a high-level committee composed of experts from various fields. This body will assess the causes of the incident and recommend measures to improve aviation safety and prevent future tragedies.
