At just 17 years old, Oluwatiseyitan Mishael Alabi has achieved a remarkable milestone-becoming a Chartered Accountant while still an undergraduate.
Newsonspot reports that the 400-level Accounting student at Babcock University was among 1,851 professionals inducted at the 75th ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) induction ceremony held at the ICAN Centre, Amuwo-Odofin.
In an interview, Alabi expressed joy and gratitude, calling the achievement “a dream come true.”
“It feels surreal. I’m incredibly grateful to God. Qualifying at 17 fills me with joy, pride, and relief. It shows that with determination and support, age is no barrier to excellence.”
His interest in accounting began during his secondary school years, with strong encouragement from his parents who recognized his potential early on.
“I knew ICAN would give me a strong foundation and a head start in my career-even before graduating from university.”
Staying focused was no easy feat. Alabi credits his success to discipline, faith, and a strong support system. He created a study timetable, balanced academics with prayer and rest, and leaned on his parents and friends for encouragement during challenging times.
“There were moments of doubt, especially juggling school and professional exams. But my parents’ support and God’s strength kept me going.”
He began his ICAN journey immediately after secondary school with the ATS (Accounting Technicians Scheme), supported by preparatory classes at his school. He then advanced to the professional level, combining self-study with lectures at a professional center.
“It was intense but manageable with consistency and the right guidance.”
Looking ahead, Alabi plans to complete his bachelor’s degree and gain real-world experience in accounting. His long-term goal?
“To build a career in corporate finance and advisory-and by God’s grace, launch a financial consulting firm to support young entrepreneurs and startups.”
Oluwatiseyitan’s story is a powerful reminder that age should never be a limitation to ambition, excellence, or success.
