Nigerian musical visionary Marvelous Ojo Obanijesu, professionally known as Bela., the creator, is preparing to release his highly anticipated 10-track project, tHIs MiGHt coNfUsE yoU, on November 26, 2025.
Distributed by UnitedMasters, the album promises to challenge conventional expectations of music, blending raw intimacy with experimental artistry.
Unlike typical polished productions, nine of the ten tracks were recorded using a phone microphone – a deliberate choice that transforms technical limitations into an expressive statement.
This approach gives listeners an immediate, unfiltered experience, as if they are eavesdropping directly on Bela.’s thoughts.
The album’s distinctive style is also reflected visually in its track titles, which intentionally lack spaces, such as sacredAbomination and whyAreYouNotHere?.
According to Bela., this reflects the chaotic, human nature of his creative process: “Every letter, every sound is slightly off – because so am I. But that’s what makes it human.”
Across the album, Bela. fuses experimental Afro-fusion with alternative soul, exploring themes ranging from love and heartbreak to political commentary and spiritual reflection.
Collaborations with artists such as Tem., Rómi, Ololade, and producers including KOLLY!, Meron Pace, and Kira, help to create a layered narrative of contradiction and emotional depth.
Standout tracks like emergencyForTheCountry (ft. J.T.R) address social issues in Nigeria, while songs like goDownLow embrace playful intimacy.
The album’s cover art reinforces its theme of creative liberation. It features a robed figure freefalling through a pastel sky, their head spilling a kaleidoscope of ideas – a visual metaphor for releasing mental restraints and embracing boundless imagination.
“I’m not losing my mind,” Bela. explains. “I’m freeing it. The image is how my brain looks when I stop pretending to have control.”
