The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned parents and guardians about the growing trend of illicit substances being packaged in attractive designer sachets targeted at young people, following the discovery of drugs valued at over N5.8 billion in a mansion located in Lekki, Lagos.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement shared on X on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi urged families to remain vigilant and monitor unusual items found around their homes, especially in wastebaskets, as drug traffickers are now using deceptive packaging to lure children and teenagers.
According to the agency, the illegal substances were uncovered during a major operation carried out by NDLEA operatives over the weekend at a luxury property allegedly being used as a drug stash house in Lekki.
Babafemi explained that the seized drugs, packaged in colourful designer sachets, were intended for distribution within communities and homes, particularly targeting younger users.
He stated, “These are some of the items recovered from a mansion used as a stash house in Lekki, Lagos, where over N5.8 billion worth of illicit drugs were seized by NDLEA officers at the weekend.”
He further warned parents to pay close attention to suspicious sachets or unfamiliar packages found at home, stressing that early intervention could help save young people from drug abuse and addiction.
The latest seizure comes amid intensified anti-drug operations by the agency across the country. In another recent operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted 12 large parcels of cocaine concealed inside specially designed food flasks at the export section of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
The cocaine shipment, weighing 2.80 kilograms, was reportedly being smuggled to the United Kingdom through a Virgin Atlantic flight before it was intercepted by anti-narcotics officers.
The agency says its sustained operations are aimed at preventing dangerous substances from reaching Nigerian streets and protecting vulnerable youths from the growing threat of drug abuse.
