The camp of Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has firmly dismissed widespread reports claiming he resigned from office to pursue a governorship ambition.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement addressing the speculation, his aide, Bolaji Tunji, clarified that the resignation letter currently circulating online did not originate from the minister’s office. He emphasized that Adelabu remains fully committed to his role and continues to serve as Minister of Power.
“Resolving the power supply challenges is my priority for now. We have between now and March 31, if I am interested, in the gubernatorial contest in Oyo State. It is all about service, either at the national level or at the subnational level,” Adelabu added.
Tunji further noted that any future political decision regarding a possible governorship bid would be officially communicated at the appropriate time, rather than through unofficial channels.

The clarification comes amid growing rumours that Adelabu had stepped down to prepare for the 2027 Oyo State governorship race. The speculation intensified following a directive by President Bola Tinubu, urging political appointees with electoral ambitions to resign ahead of a stipulated deadline.
Adelabu, who has previously contested the Oyo governorship under different political platforms, recently returned to the All Progressives Congress and is currently serving in the administration.
For now, his team maintains that he remains in office and focused on his ministerial responsibilities.
