Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has officially been decorated as the new Acting Inspector General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Newsonspot reports that the decoration ceremony took place on Wednesday, February 25, at the State House Abuja, marking a significant leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force.
The event came less than 24 hours after the former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, submitted his resignation letter to the Presidency. Egbetokun reportedly stepped down due to family matters requiring his full attention.

Although Disu was initially scheduled to retire on April 13, 2026, upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60, the amended Police Act allows an Inspector General of Police to serve a fixed four-year term, regardless of age.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu personally pinned the new insignia on Disu’s uniform and commended the outgoing IGP, Egbetokun, for his dedication and service to the nation.
Notable dignitaries present at the ceremony included the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the wife of the new IGP, Mrs. Disu; and the immediate past IGP, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun.
The development signals a new phase of leadership for the Nigeria Police Force as the Acting IGP assumes responsibility at a crucial time for national security.
