President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Newsonspot reports that the nomination follows the resignation of Professor Abdullahi Usman from the position.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the State House on Tuesday, noting that the appointment is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, in line with the provisions of the NAHCON Act. A formal letter has already been sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, requesting swift consideration and approval of the nominee.

Ambassador Yusuf is a seasoned career diplomat who served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Türkiye between 2021 and 2024. His nomination comes just days after Professor Usman stepped down from office after about 14 months, citing personal reasons for his resignation.
Although there were reports that NAHCON could face significant financial losses related to the 2025 Hajj operations, Professor Usman clarified that his resignation was not linked to any dispute with the government or the commission’s mandate.
