Manchester United has sacked Ruben Amorim as head coach after 14 months in charge of the Premier League club.
In a statement on Monday, Manchester United, whose men’s team are sixth in the Premier League, said that “the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change”.
“This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish,” added the club, which is backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos.
According to football expert, David Ornstein, the 40-year-old Portuguese was informed of the decision early this morning.
Amorim joined from Sporting CP 14 months ago, and leaves the club following a breakdown in relations with board members.
Darren Fletcher is expected to take over on an interim basis.
