Osun State is in mourning following the death of Prince Tunde Ponnle, a respected elder statesman and prominent son of Ada town, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday, December 14, at the age of 94.
Newsonspot reports that the news of his death was made public on Sunday by a Facebook user, Babalola Sunday Emmanuel, and has since drawn widespread reactions across the state.
Prince Ponnle was widely known for his lifelong commitment to education, healthcare, and community development. Until May 2023, he served as a member of the Governing Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), where he played an important role in supporting the institution’s growth.
As a major benefactor of UNIOSUN, the late prince donated several valuable assets to the university. These include a multi-million-naira mansion and the MicCom Cancer Centre, a facility that has become a key part of medical training at the university. The cancer centre regularly hosts rural postings for students in the MBBS programme, contributing significantly to healthcare delivery and education.
Following the announcement of his death, tributes have continued to pour in from Ada town and other parts of Osun State. Many have described Prince Ponnle as a rare gem whose life was marked by generosity, humility, and selfless service to humanity.
The UNIOSUN community and residents of Ada town have expressed deep condolences to his family, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time and for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Details of his burial arrangements have not yet been announced by the family.
