The Imo State Police Command has uncovered a shocking illegal mortuary in Umuechem Umuhu community, along the Owerri-Aba expressway, allegedly used as a storage site for mutilated bodies believed to be victims of organ harvesting.
Newsonspot reports that the Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, led journalists and state officials to the site, identified as Ugwudi Cottage Hospital and Mortuary Services. The suspected operator, Stanley “Morroco” Oparaugo, is currently on the run.
According to the police, the discovery followed credible intelligence that the facility had long been used as a dumping ground for dismembered and decomposing bodies. When security operatives entered the building, they were met with a horrifying scene—hundreds of rotting, mutilated corpses stacked inside the illegal morgue.
CP Aboki revealed that the suspect allegedly operated a hotel in front of the mortuary to disguise the criminal activities happening behind it. He added that once the due process is completed, the government will demolish the structure.
A further search of the premises revealed even more disturbing findings, including a suspected personal shrine and a hideout believed to have been used for kidnapping operations.
The Commissioner of Police confirmed that Oparaugo has been declared wanted, and efforts are underway to track him down.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu, also stated that the facility is not on the list of registered mortuaries in the state. She described the location as a serious public health danger and warned residents to stay away from it.
The Owerri-Aba expressway has recently become a hotspot for kidnappings and other criminal activities. Residents hope that this latest discovery will help security agencies restore safety and order in the area as they intensify the search for the suspect.
