Nigeria has lost a prominent statesman as Audu Ogbeh, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and minister of agriculture (2015-2019), passed away on Saturday, August 9, at the age of 78.
Newsonspot reports that in a statement, his family described him as a man of “integrity, service and dedication” whose life touched many.
“He departed peacefully… We will appreciate some privacy at this time while we mourn the loss of our patriarch,” the statement read.
Details of his funeral will be announced in due course.
Ogbeh’s political career spanned decades. He served as PDP chairman from 2001 to 2005, and earlier as federal minister of communications between 1982 and 1983 during President Shehu Shagari’s administration. He was also deputy speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly in the late 1970s.
Until his death, Ogbeh remained respected for his public service and statesmanship across Nigeria’s political landscape.
