Aviation authorities have launched a crackdown following an incident involving veteran Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1 or K1 De Ultimate, which led to a serious safety breach and the suspension of two ValueJet pilots.
Newsonspot reports that the event unfolded on August 5, 2025, aboard a ValueJet flight at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Sources told TheCable that the musician was seen drinking from a personal flask during the flight boarding process. A flight attendant, suspecting the content to be alcohol – a substance strictly prohibited onboard Nigerian aircraft – approached Kwam 1 and requested he surrender the flask.
Kwam 1 reportedly refused, insisting the flask contained doctor-prescribed medication. Following his refusal, the flight crew made the decision to deboard him from the aircraft.
The situation escalated quickly. In an apparent protest, Kwam 1 moved to the front of the aircraft, physically blocking it from taking off. A video circulating online shows the musician standing directly in front of the plane, interacting with ground personnel. Shockingly, the aircraft proceeded to taxi and forcefully took off, narrowly avoiding Kwam 1 and airport workers, thereby violating aviation safety rules.
In response, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), on August 6, announced the suspension of two ValueJet pilots involved in the incident. The regulatory body said the pilots initiated departure from the designated bay without securing mandatory pre-departure clearance, placing ground personnel and airport users at serious risk.
“This reckless action endangered the safety of ground personnel and other airport users, contravening established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards,” the NCAA said in a statement.
Beyond the pilot suspensions, the NCAA is reportedly considering placing Kwam 1 on a ‘no-fly list’ due to his disorderly conduct. This list, typically reserved for individuals posing significant threats to aviation safety, would prevent the musician from boarding any commercial flights – both locally and internationally.
If enforced, the measure could have a serious impact on Kwam 1’s music career, particularly his international performances and travel-dependent engagements.
As of now, Kwam 1 has not publicly addressed the incident.
