The Yoruba film industry has been plunged into mourning following the shocking and sudden deaths of two of its actors, Omotola Odunsi and Odunayo Olufemi, fondly known as Oloto.
Newsonspot reports that Omotola Odunsi, a rising star known for her roles in Lisabi: The Uprising, Amonata, Officer Adaeze, and Ifedayo, passed away shortly after informing a colleague she was recovering from an illness. She began acting while studying at Olabisi Onabanjo University and later trained under Nollywood veteran Odunlade Adekola.
Her untimely death, with the cause yet to be disclosed, has left many in shock. Tributes have since poured in across social media from fellow actors and fans who remember her passion and vibrant presence on set.
Tragedy struck again just a day later when news broke of the death of another actor, Odunayo Olufemi, popularly called Oloto. According to actor Kunle Afod, Oloto had attended church but felt unwell afterward. He reportedly walked into a nearby hospital and collapsed while speaking to the receptionist.
The double loss has devastated the Yoruba movie community, with colleagues describing the deaths as painful and deeply shocking. Many have called it a heavy blow to the industry.
