Dangote Cement Plc has announced plans to commission a 3 million metric tonnes per annum (3Mta) grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire by the third quarter of 2025, reinforcing its dominance across Africa and further strengthening its export capabilities.
In a note to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Arvind Pathak, revealed that export volumes from Nigeria have surged by 18.2%, with 18 clinker shipments successfully delivered to Ghana and Cameroon.
“This demonstrates the growing importance of our pan-African footprint and our ongoing commitment to regional trade and self-sufficiency,” Pathak stated.
He further highlighted that the company is focused on long-term value creation, with significant improvements made in strengthening its cost structure. Part of this strategy includes the phased deployment of 1,600 new CNG-powered trucks aimed at reducing logistics costs and improving environmental efficiency.
Reviewing the company’s Q2 financials, Pathak noted that Dangote Cement recorded remarkable gains, driven by operational efficiency and cost management.
“Group EBITDA rose by 41.8% to ₦944.9 billion, while group profit surged by 174.1%. This outstanding performance is a testament to our disciplined execution, strong cost leadership, and strategic investments,” he said.
Dangote Cement is Africa’s largest cement producer, boasting a 52.0Mta capacity across the continent. In Nigeria alone, the company operates four major plants:
Obajana Plant (Kogi State) – Africa’s largest with 16.25Mta across five lines
Ibese Plant (Ogun State) – 12Mta across four lines
Gboko Plant (Benue State) – 4Mta
Okpella Plant (Edo State) – 3Mta
Through strategic investments, Dangote Cement has ended Nigeria’s reliance on imported cement, turning the country into a major exporter of cement and clinker.
