Air Peace has confirmed that one of its aircraft, operating Flight P47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt, experienced a minor runway incident while landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday morning.
Newsonspot reports that according to a statement released by the airline’s spokesperson, Mr. Osifo-Whiskey Efe, the aircraft landed safely before veering slightly off the runway in what was described as a “runway excursion.”
“The aircraft veered slightly off the runway without any damage. All passengers disembarked safely and calmly. No injuries were recorded,” the airline assured.
Reaffirming its dedication to passenger safety, Air Peace stated:
“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations.”
This latest incident comes just two months after a previous event involving the airline. On May 11, an Air Peace aircraft collided with a large antelope while taxiing on the runway at the Asaba International Airport, causing flight disruptions and requiring the aircraft to be grounded for inspection.
In response to the Asaba incident, Mr. Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), acknowledged that while such wildlife encounters are largely unpredictable, airlines are still expected to fulfill their responsibilities to passengers.
As of the time of this report, the NCAA has not issued a formal statement regarding Sunday’s runway excursion in Port Harcourt.
