Dr. Mkor Aondona, the Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning to the Governor of Benue State, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate.
Newsonspot gathered that the arrest, carried out on Friday, June 20, 2025, follows multiple allegations of sexual exploitation, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
Several female students submitted petitions to the EFCC, accusing Dr. Aondona of luring them with ushering job offers that required sexual compliance. They further alleged that he secretly recorded their encounters and later used the footage to blackmail them into repeated acts, threatening to leak the videos if they refused.
Non-Consensual Recordings and Cyber Harassment
According to EFCC sources, Dr. Aondona also distributed the explicit recordings through messaging platforms, causing severe emotional harm to the victims. Some of the videos have allegedly surfaced online, triggering widespread outrage and spotlighting the growing issue of digital sexual abuse and abuse of power in public institutions.
Immediate Suspension by Governor Alia
Reacting swiftly, Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia suspended Dr. Aondona with immediate effect. The announcement was made on Sunday, June 22, through the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.
“The suspension of Dr. Mkor Aondona is with immediate effect. This decision reflects our unwavering commitment to integrity, discipline, and accountability,” the governor’s statement read.
Governor Alia emphasized that public office is a trust and not a shield for unethical conduct.
“Anyone in this government who engages in criminal or unethical behavior will face the full consequences of the law. There is no room for misconduct in an administration committed to the rule of law and public trust,” he declared.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action Expected
Dr. Aondona remains in EFCC custody as investigations continue. He is expected to be formally charged in court if sufficient evidence is established.
